Dermatological Manifestations of Lupus Erythematosus

Correspondence to: William Yuk-Ming Tang Abstract: There are protean cutaneous manifestations in patients with lupus erythematosus (LE). Skin lesions rate one of the most common manifestations of SLE second to musculoskeletal features. They can be classified as LE-specific and LE-non-specific. The commonest LE-specific lesion is acute cutaneous LE (ACLE) and the commonest LE-non-specific lesion is telogen effluvium. Recognition of these cutaneous lesions is important for the diagnosis and treatment as well as assessing disease activity. This review article focuses on the important cutaneous manifestations of LE and summarises the histopathological features and treatment.
